The subjects in most of my paintings of Motherhood are my daughters, who now have young children of their own. They are dealing with the same tensions and sacrifices that I did. My work are mostly intimate scenes, and have a strong undercurrent of exhaustion and melancholy reflecting the epic, amazing and difficult nature of motherhood itself. Running through them is the conflict between the incredible beauty of new life, and the sacrifices made by the mother to enable it. I am able to dig deeply into these feelings because, in a sense, I am reliving my own experiences through them.
